Getting back with an ex is a huge decision that should not be taken lightly. After all, you broke up for a reason, right? There are many reasons why getting back together can be a great idea. The first thing is to honestly analyze why the break up happened in the first place. This may sound insane when all you want to do when getting back with an ex is to take action, but this step is absolutely necessary. I do not mean what was the straw that broke the camel’s back, like being late for a date or catching him looking at another woman. I mean what was the true cause at the heart of the relationship. Is it something that can even be changed? If not, can the relationship thrive in spite of it? If not, the whole thing is pointless anyway.

Next, consider if the other person is even interested. Getting back with an ex is not about convincing them to be in a relationship. It is about letting them know that you sincerely want to give it a second shot and you are willing to do your part. If they are not interested, you have no control over that. You cannot force someone else into wanting to be with you. They have to be into it.

Lastly, when getting back with an ex, be discreet. Do not spread your business all over. It is fine to talk to a few trusted confidants, but issues involved in rekindling a relationship are often personal, and your ex will appreciate the subtlety.

If you do all the considering and come to the conclusion that getting back together is the thing to do, put feelers out and see if they are receptive. If so, take the next step. Be honest, talk it out, and see what happens. Even if it does not work out, at least you will always know you tried.
